Program Description: The Accounting Cybersecurity associate degree program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the accounting profession with a focus on providing students with hands on and technical training in the concepts, principles, and techniques required to successfully prevent and/or mitigate security issues that put sensitive financial data at risk. Learning opportunities develop academic, technical, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. Areas covered in this program include maintaining a set of books for business entities, account classifications, subsidiary record accounting, corporate accounting, cost accounting, payroll, computerized accounting, spreadsheet and database fundamentals, tax preparation, and word processing. The program emphasizes a combination of accounting theory and practical application necessary for successful employment using both manual and computerized accounting systems. In addition, students will learn how to secure accounting programs, existing computing devices, and networks. Students will learn about evolving threats and the proper use of specific security tools. Both security theory and hands on practice are stressed.
Employment Opportunities: Graduates of the Accounting Cybersecurity Program will assist the accounting profession with meeting evolving market needs by combining an understanding of cyber security with strong accounting knowledge and technical skills. Accounting Cybersecurity graduates will be prepared to meet the needs of firms in the Cybersecurity field who are seeking employees who have knowledge of accounting concepts and experience with accounting related software programs. Graduates from the Accounting Cybersecurity program will be qualified applicants for entry-level Accounting Analyst, Revenue Officer, Staff Accountant, and Financial Examiner positions.
