PSY 453 Families and Crisis
Families and Crisis examines how families experience, navigate, and adapt to crises across the lifespan. The course explores both normative transitions (e.g., marriage, divorce, illness, aging) and unexpected or catastrophic events (e.g., natural disasters, economic hardship, violence, loss). Students will engage with a variety of theoretical frameworks and evidence-based practices to understand how families respond to stress and trauma. Emphasis is placed on identifying protective factors, community resources, and family strengths that support resilience and recovery. Through case studies, discussions, and reflective activities, students will develop a deeper understanding of how diverse families cope with adversity in a changing world.
