HES112 Nursing Assistant
This course introduces the student to the fundamental nursing assistant skills. Emphasis is placed upon communication, safety and infection control procedures and basic personal care skills for patients/residents in sub-acute, long term care and in an individual’s home. Other topics will include vital signs, documentation and the legal and regulatory practices for the nursing assistant/home health aide. This course requires a minimum of 125 hours; 65 hours of theory, 30 hours of laboratory skills and 30 hours of clinical practice. A minimum grade of a C must be earned in this course. Certified Nurse Aide applicants to the Healthcare Technician Certificate Program must have completed a nurse aide training course and hold current Massachusetts nurse aide certification prior to starting the Healthcare Technician Certificate Program.
