Warfare Operations - Curriculum 501 (DL)
Brief Overview
The Master of Warfare Operations (MWO) is a distance learning (DL) degree program that provides an interdisciplinary education in disciplines that support warfighting. The MWO degree consists of a sequence of NPS graduate-level certificates in at least three of the thirteen Navy core competency areas for officer education. Graduates of approved Warfare/Weapons Tactics Instructor (WTI) programs may receive transfer credit for up to 25% of course credits required for the MWO degree.
Requirements for Entry
- Baccalaureate degree with above a 2.6 GPA.
- Completion of at least one semester of college-level calculus.
- Some certificates may have additional prerequisites.
Degree Requirements
- Completion within five years of select NPS DL certificates totaling a minimum of 44 graduate credit hours.
- Minimum of 33 graduate level credit hours completed at NPS (3 certificates).
Outcomes
Graduates of the Master’s of Warfare Operations will be able to:
- Evaluate critical perspectives on the science, technology, context, and practice of modern warfare.
- Apply methods and insights from relevant disciplines to analyze problems, assess trade-offs, and develop creative approaches to modern warfighting and operations.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in a minimum of 3 naval competency areas.
- Analyze strategic, tactical, and technical challenges and effectively communicate solutions to military and civilian audiences.
Example Course of Study
In the process of fulfilling the degree requirements for a Master of Warfare Operations degree, students will take the following courses to complete the Great Power Competition Certificate (255), the Systems Analysis Certificate (281), and the Space Systems Fundamentals Certificate (273).
