OA4614 Advanced Wargaming Applications

Student groups will create a military modeling application for an external defense wargaming sponsor and/or an NPS faculty advisor, and examine approved issues in depth. Starting with a well-defined wargame with a functioning framework, student groups will learn, apply, and integrate relevant problem-structuring methods, combat models, and decision analysis tools. The end product will be a functioning military modeling application that produces relevant qualitative and/or quantitative insights in a final course project.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Create and/or integrate advanced modeling adjudication tools into a Capstone Project, Thesis, or existing wargame.
  • Use methods such as the Delphi Method, the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), and Schools of Thought Analysis (SOTA) to determine group preferences and/or group conflicts.
  • Negotiate mutually advantageous vignettes and injects for inclusion into a sponsor’s wargame.
  • Apply the fundamentals of wargaming to design and develop a military modeling application for a Navy, DoD, or other defense partner sponsor.
  • Understand the cycle of research and how wargames can be leveraged for more efficient and effective experimentation.
  • Effectively develop and present the analysis results of a group project.
