Privacy and Data Security (Graduate Certificate)
This certificate prepares students with the specific knowledge and skills in the fields of privacy and data security to both business and IT professionals, who are supporting organizations who are seeking compliance with existing and upcoming regulations. Personal, government and corporate data is increasingly available online and has become the subject of increasing cybercriminal activity including fraud, identity theft and ransomware attacks. Many chief privacy offices are being formed within global corporations, public agencies, and others. Their role is to manage the risks related to information privacy and the increasing focus on its regulation. On completion of our certificate, students will have the body of knowledge to take the Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) certification exam from IAPP.
Upon successful completion of this program students will be able to:
- Analyze privacy and data security issues and identify solutions utilizing people, processes, and technology.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities in the regulations, policies, and practices of privacy prevention.
- Effectively communicate privacy and data security (policies, regulations and practices).
Admission Requirements
Preference is given to applicants who have one of the following:
- An overall minimum GPA of 3.0 in an accredited undergraduate program;
- Nine (9) recent credits in an accredited graduate program with a minimum GPA of 3.0; or
- A satisfactory score on the GRE or GMAT with a background or experience in business or technology.
Title IV federal financial aid is not available for the certificate program unless it is included in the M.S. in Technology Management program.
Application information for current graduate students: Current graduate College of BILT students pursuing graduate master’s BILT programs at the University may apply to add a certificate to their program of study through the Dean’s Office.
Minimum Grade: A minimum grade of B- is needed to receive credit for a course in the certificate. All graduate students in the College of Business, Innovation, Leadership, and Technology must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Students whose GPA falls below 3.0 at the end of any semester will be placed on academic probation. Students must bring their cumulative GPA to 3.0 or higher within nine (9) graduate credits or be dismissed. A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 a second time will be dismissed.
Program Completion and Residency Requirements: Twelve (12) credits of coursework must be completed at Marymount University within three years of the date of matriculation.
