ED 356 Literacy Instruction for Diverse Learners: Grades 3-6

Using the Virginia Standards of Learning as the framework, pre-service teachers will explore the relationships among reading, writing, speaking, and listening in the context of diverse classrooms for students in grades 3-6. Various strategies for teaching writing, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension and their integration into the curriculum are emphasized. Students will examine the diagnostic tools used to assess, evaluate, and group students for differentiated literacy instruction. Field experience: 20 hours. Prerequisite: a grade of C or better in ED 200. (3)
