PSYD 7419 CHILD & ADOLESCENT PSYCHOPATHOLOGY

This course is an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of Developmental psychopathology. Developmental psychopathology is a paradigm that articulates the role of time and change in childhood disturbances. We will examine this fundamental aspect of childhood disorders. Students will become familiar with relevant literature concerning the disorders of childhood and adolescents. Furthermore, students will gain mastery in conceptualizing and synthesizing clinical information to formulate an initial clinical diagnosis. In addition to a broad overview of child clinical disorders, we will examine a number of key themes including 1) a developmental perspective which is important for understanding childhood disorders; 2) the role of risk and resilience; and 3) how social, cultural, and economic diversity impacts
