The mission of the Office for Student Retention & Educational Innovation is based on the premises that all students should have a full, positive, and well-textured collegiate experience; however, that experience should also include preparation for what is to come after graduating, whether that be further education or a career or both.
OSREI encourages a student-centered culture that facilitates and celebrates individual success. We are committed to advancing models, practices, and policies to improve degree completion and persistence. OSREI is dedicated to advancing a culture of assessment by engaging in data-driven activities. The targeted groups include first-year (freshman) students, first-generation college students, students on academic probation, special admit populations and students reinstated from academic dismissal. Some of our annual programming includes First Generation Student Initiatives, the Halfway to Graduation Celebration, and the Cougar Pop-Up shop.
Administering and Convening the Academic Standards Committee: This committee, which has faculty representation from each college, evaluates student appeals and makes recommendations to the appropriate dean regarding students' dismissal. The appropriate college dean makes the final decision on reinstatement. The centralization of this function and its coordination with academic advisement, tutoring, and learning support services will enhance reinstated students' chances for success.
