Cash Policy

“Cash" is defined as U.S. coin and currency, cashier's check, money order, bank draft, or traveler's checks.

For every time the University receives over $10,000 in cash in one transaction or in two or more related transactions, we are required to file IRS Form 8300 "Report of Cash Payments Over $10,000 Received in a Trade or Business."  Transactions occurring within a cumulative 12 month period are considered related (and reportable) if the recipient (Kean University) knows, or has reason to know, that each transaction is one of a series of related transactions. Payments for tuition, fees, room and board, etc. are considered related (and reportable) transactions.

Cash does not include checks drawn on the payer's own account, such as personal checks, regardless of the amount.

Trade or business is defined as any activity constituting the sale of goods or the performance of services to produce income under Internal Revenue Code Section 162. One such example of trade or business income for a university would be tuition payments.

Refund of Tuition

A student’s status is determined to be either full-time or part-time based on the number of credits for which they are enrolled at the end of the add-drop period. Students are refunded in accordance with the following Tuition and Fees refund schedule (Applicable for the Fall and Spring terms only).

1st week of class: 100% Refund
2nd week of classes: 75% Refund
3rd week of classes: 50% Refund
4th week and thereafter: 0% Refund

A schedule of the refund dates and refund percentages can be found on the Academic Calendar at http://www.kean.edu/offices/registrar/academic-calendar

Full-Time Undergraduate Matriculated students will qualify for a refund only in the event they drop down to part-time status (less than 12 credits) during the refund period. Then, the refund will be the appropriate percentage of the difference between the full-time flat rate and the part-time rate for the number of credits remaining. Undergraduate students taking 11 credits or less are considered part-time and are charged tuition and fees per credit. Part-time students qualify for refunds on an individual course basis through the refund period.

Non-attendance does not constitute withdrawal. Students are academically and financially responsible to see that correct withdrawal procedures are completed on time. Refund of tuition and fees will not be made if a student fails to properly withdraw from classes during the refund period.

Books

Books may be purchased from the University Bookstore, and for Kean Ocean, through the Ocean County College Bookstore. Books and materials for the first year may cost an estimated $1,300. The cost of books and materials is subject to change. Kean University reserves the right to make changes to these costs as applicable.

Kean ID Cards

Kean University REQUIRES ALL active, registered students, faculty and staff to have an official Kean University identification card. Kean ID cards provide access to campus buildings and classrooms, computer labs, the gymnasium and dormitories. The Kean ID card also serves as a form of identification for on-campus activities and University events. Students may also use Kean ID cards for meal plans, Cougar dollars and flex plans, if applicable.

Students have the ability to upload an ID card photo through the Kean University GET Mobile App. Students can use the GET Mobile App to manage their Kean ID Card funds and view meal plan balances; anytime, anywhere. Download the GET Mobile app today!

Simply search for "GET" in the Google Play or Apple App stores and use your KeanGoogle login. Once installed on your device you'll be able to:

  • View your balances. Account balances are available in real time and accessible 24/7.
  • See your transaction history. Up to six months of transaction history can be displayed and information includes the date, time, location, account, type of transaction, and transaction amount.
  • Report your Kean ID card lost or stolen. This will immediately lock the card so it cannot be used until you report the card found or have it replaced.
  • Deposit Flex Dollars to your account for use at on and off campus locations. Also, you can make requests to others to deposit funds to your card on the GET Portal.
  • Explore locations within the app that accept any of our Kean Currencies.

In addition to the GET Mobile App you may access your account using a web browser by visiting the GET Portal. Your login is your KeanGoogle email credentials.
