PA 5835 SOCIAL MEDICINE
In this class, students will analyze the impact of social determinants of health and capitalism on health and healthcare in the United States. Healthcare is analyzed as a human right versus a privilege within the context of social justice. Students evaluate the power of evidence-based group interventions as a path to improving the health of communities and populations. Students will select one group intervention and create a proposal for how the selected intervention can be used to the greatest benefit for improved health for the greatest number of people, developing arguments that include the role of social determinants of health, health equity, capitalism and power for organizational change.
