Sustainability Science

B. S. Sustainability Science

The B.S. in Sustainability Science is designed to prepare students in the disciplines of sustainability and environmental sciences that focus on three connected areas: environment, economy, and society. These elements are examined contextually and with regards to their inter-relationships so that students can be prepared for careers in renewable energy, sustainable business, environmental engineering, environmental law, environmental health and safety, sustainable agriculture, wastewater and stormwater management, life cycle assessment, green technologies, environmental protection, watershed science, or environmental nonprofit management.

Through this program, students gain a diverse scientific foundation that also allows students to specialize in one of two Concentration areas: Environmental Engineering or Energy and Business. The Engineering Concentration prepares students to enter an engineering graduate program with a strong background in stormwater management, wastewater treatment, environmental resiliency, air pollution control, and solid waste management. As industries throughout the world are recognizing the need for sustainability to be a key element of their business and operations, the Energy and Business Concentration integrates management and economics with a focus on sustainable technologies, building design and renewable energy. Both concentrations will provide students with practical skills and critical thinking that is highly valued in industry, business, and governmental agencies.
