Curriculum & Teaching Programs

The School of Curriculum & Teaching offers a variety of undergraduate programs for students seeking certification to teach in P-12 schools. These programs are listed below.

Early Childhood Education/TSD

  • Certification in P-3

  • Endorsement in Teacher of Students with Disabilities

As an Early childhood education teacher, you will contribute to growth, learning and development, and create environments for exploration and discovery for all students. You will have an opportunity to choose a content area or a second major in a subject that reflects your individual interests. You will also earn an endorsement and valuable insight into teaching students with disabilities that will set you apart from the competition so you can land your dream job after graduation.

Art Education

Art Education (Certification in K-12) students benefit from a distinguished psychology-based approach to teaching art that helps children and adolescents enhance their creativity, organize their experiences and manage their emotions. Practical classroom internships and rigorous coursework help our students build unique skill sets that distinguish them when they enter the job market.

Elementary Bilingual Education

  • Certification in K-6
  • Certification in K-6 and 5-8 

Elementary bilingual educators promote opportunities for all through mentorship and instruction. They change lives by easing the transition for English-language learners and create safe academic environments for all students.

Elementary Education/TSD

Elementary education is about expanding and inspiring young minds. Elementary school teachers contribute to the growth and development of the next generation of young people. Kean elementary education students can choose to focus in a content area or pursue a second major in a subject that reflects their individual interests. In this program, students also earn an endorsement and valuable insight into teaching students with disabilities that will set them apart from the competition in the job market.

Elementary K-6/TSD: 3 Year Honors Program

If you are admitted into this selective program, you will take summer or winter session classes, as well as an additional class during most fall and spring semesters. This accelerated program offers you the rigorous coursework and field experiences that have made Kean graduates stand out in the job market for decades.

Middle School Education/TSD

  • Certification in K-6
  • Certification in K-6, 5-8
  • Endorsement in Teacher of Students with Disabilities

Middle school education students receive three certifications. Students focus on a content area in a subject that reflects their individual interests. In this program, students also earn an endorsement and valuable insight into teaching students with disabilities that will set them apart from the competition in the job market.

Secondary Education

  • K-12 Certification available in the following majors: Biology, Earth Science, History, English, Mathematics
  • Options with Endorsement in Teacher of Students with Disabilities

Secondary education teachers help the next generation to reach their goals. High school and middle school teachers prepare young people for success in college or in their chosen career. Our secondary education program gives you the best of both worlds — the chance to study a subject you are passionate about and the training to teach it to your students.

Spanish

  • Spanish major
  • K-12 Certification available

Spanish proficiency enhances your appreciation of the language and the cultural aspects of the Spanish-speaking world. Spanish education is about inspiring a love of language and culture in your students. Kean’s Spanish program will enable you to achieve a ready comprehension of spoken Spanish to help build connections with a wide range of people and communities across multiple career interests. With a Spanish teacher certification, you can also build meaningful relationships in our growing global economy as a teacher, researcher, interpreter or consultant.
