Second Baccalaureate Degree Admission

Many programs at Kean University offer a second degree. To qualify for admission to a second baccalaureate degree program, the applicant must have earned a baccalaureate degree from Kean or any other regionally accredited four-year college or university and have the GPA required for admission to the specific major program selected. Admission decisions are based on the cumulative G.P.A. of the degree granting institution and must meet the G.P.A. requirement for the intended major.

Applicants will be evaluated using the guidelines set by the University and the academic program. For admission into major programs where special procedures are in effect (auditions, portfolios, interview, etc.), similar procedures will be adopted for the second degree.

To complete a second baccalaureate degree, students do not need to complete Free Elective or General Education requirements (except for courses that are pre-requisites for required courses) but must complete all major requirements and any additional required courses or University requirements for the second degree. A minimum of 31 degree credits, including at least one-half the major requirements, must be earned at Kean University after admission to a second baccalaureate degree program.

Candidates may take no more than six credits toward the second degree as non-matriculated students. Once accepted into the program, all coursework must be completed at Kean University.
