HIST 2381 COLONIAL LATIN AMERICA

An introduction to the history of Latin America from the Pre- Columbian Civilations to the end of the colonial times. Emphasis on the encounter of peoples of Amerindian and Iberian cultures and the process of conquest, resistance and mutual transformation that ensued over the next three centuries, the emergence of a colonial society, the imperial efforts to reform and adjust the colonies to a changing international order, and the process that culminates in the wars of independence.
