SUST 2101 APPLIED ORGANIC CHEMICAL SYSTEMS FOR SUSTAINABILITY

A fundamentals course in organic molecular structure, nomenclature, and basic reaction chemistry classification geared toward the justification of newly emerging sustainable chemical practices. Conventional organic molecular structure will be explored in lecture, demonstrated in the laboratory, and used to explore current methodology to justify the need for sustainable laboratory practices and techniques. This course will highlight conventional and green chemical discovery/separation and analysis techniques including an introduction to scientific chemical hazard documentation and its application to health and environmental concerns. (3 hr. lecture, 2 hrs. lab) Prerequisites: SUST 1000, and a grade of "C" or better in CHEM 1083 and CHEM 1084, or permission of the instructor.
