CHEM 2581 ORGANIC CHEMISTRY I

ORGANIC CHEMISTRY COURSE NO: CHEM 2581 SEMESTER HOUR: 3 PRE REQ: A GRADE OF 'C" OR BETTER IN CHEM 1084 REQUIRED FOR THE CHEM MAJORS DESCRIPTIONS: CHEM 2181 ORGANIC CHEM LEC I: This is the first half of a two semester sequence in organic chemistry for science majors. The physical and chemical properties of organic chemistry are studied using a functional group organization and a mechanistic perspective. The functional groups include alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alkyl halides, alchohol and ethers, conjugated compunds and arenes. More general topics covered include molecuar orbital theory, themodynamics and spontaneeity, reaction mechanisms and kinetics, sterochemistry and spectroscopy.
