Military and Veteran Student Services

The College of Southern Idaho provides educational services to assist military connected students with the use of their educational benefits and educational planning. Military connected students should contact the Military, Veteran, and International Student Coordinator, in the Taylor Administration Building. Military connected students eligible to receive Veteran Affairs (VA) educational benefits will be subject to CSI’s policies and procedures and VA regulations. Military connected students receiving educational benefits may also be eligible for other financial aid programs through the CSI Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.

Each semester military connected students receiving educational benefits must contact the Military, Veteran, and International Student Coordinator following initial certification for educational benefits. This is to assure that correct VA educational benefits are granted in accordance with declared major requirements. The student must report to the School Certifying Official at the time of registration to receive certification for the following semester. The Request for Certification Form will need to be completed at the time of registration before the student can be certified with the VA. Any changes to the student's schedule and mailing address must be reported to the School Certifying Official.

The VA Regional Office in Boise, Idaho has brochures and manuals which outline benefits for veterans and their dependents such as disability, direct deposit, VA medical care, and other VA benefits. Veterans Affairs “benefit counselors” are also available to each veteran by phone through the VA Regional Office. The toll-free number is 1-800-827-1000 or you can write to the following address: 805 West Franklin Street Boise, Idaho 83702.

Veterans and Covered Individuals

Section 702 of the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014 (“Choice Act”), requires the Veteran’s Administration to disapprove programs of education for payment of benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill® and Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty® at public institutions of higher learning if the school charges qualifying Veterans and dependents tuition and fees in excess of the rate for resident students for terms beginning after July 1, 2015.

In support of student veterans and in order for CSI’s currently eligible programs to remain approved for the VA’s GI Bill® programs, CSI will charge in-state tuition to all non-resident students who can prove to the institution that they meet the eligibility criteria set forth under Section 3679(c) of Title 38, United States codes (effective Fall 2015).

Public Law 117-68 Update

Effective August 1, 2022, the Colonel John M. McHugh Tuition Fairness for Survivors Act of 2021 (Public Law 117-68) amends the definition of covered individuals for in-state tuition to include Chapter 35 Dependents' Educational Assistance.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government website: https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/.
