For students who want to receive credit for acting, technical, management, and business assignments in college productions. Practical experience in producing and presenting plays. Hours depend on assignment. Required for theatre majors. May be repeated for a total of 8 credit hours.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of theatre, terminology, methods, and practices by participating in theatre department productions by assignment as a performer, technician, management, or business support person and by successfully completing those assignments.
- Recognize the complexity of theatre art in order to evaluate and improve their own critical thinking skills as evidenced by participation in the production process. Showing proper use of terminology and demonstrating ability to converse knowledgeably about the field.
- Critically evaluate the influence of the works of an individual or a system on the play selected for the production and then work out a scheme of presenting that information in both written and oral presentation.
- Explore the cultural diversity of the world population as expressed in the arts and evaluate the differences and similarities of different ages, peoples, and movements as related to their production experience.
- Discuss the importance of the arts as an influence in their own lives and as evidence of our culture in order to understand the importance of a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and understanding.
- Appreciate the importance of creativity in their own work and in the works of others.
