MUSI 243 Music Portfolio and Final Recital*

This course provides students with the opportunity to prepare a comprehensive portfolio which may help them transfer to another college or gain employment. It also serves as the final semester of applied instruction. Students will gather documentation demonstrating that the Music Program Student Learning Objectives have been met. The final portfolio and recital are juried by faculty within the program.

V. Topical Outline (Course Content)

The primary focus of this course is weekly study of a particular brass instrument; the student and instructor will work together to select appropriate solo and chamber literature to perform on a recital of at least one-half hour Because this is a capstone class, the student must demonstrate retention and mastery of sophomore-level skills in music theory and aural skills by taking a comprehensive exam in each. The student will also demonstrate mastery of basic piano skills by taking an exam on this instrument The student will be expected to assemble and submit a portfolio that includes evidence of successful completion of all requirements for an Associate’s Degree in music; the portfolio will include audio and video recordings of the recital, statements from faculty verifying that the student has passed his/her comprehensive and piano examinations, and programs from previous ensemble and solo performances during the student’s time at CSI.
