III. Catalog Course Description
This course is an introduction to the physical maintenance and sanitation required to the upkeep of any typical lodging facility. The course will be oriented toward the management of the Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Engineering departments.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Understand and discuss the role of hospitality facilities management.
- Describe what is involved in various types of maintenance to include routine preventive,scheduled, emergency and contract.
- Discuss staffing, training, evaluating and retention of personnel.
- Identify and explain the role of safety and security systems in a hotel operation.
- Identify and describe HVAC systems, heating systems, lighting systems, water systems,waste management, food and beverage equipment, electrical systems and pool maintenance.
- Describe a building’s foundation, structural frame, exterior walls, windows and doors,roof including typical problems that each of these building elements have and preventive maintenance measures that hotel managers can take to keep these building elements in good shape.

- Discuss the reasons for renovating a hotel, summarize the life cycle of a hotel and describe types of renovation.
