WELD 158 GTAW
This course serves as an introductory and intermediate course to GTAW. Students will learn the theory of and the techniques needed to properly set up and use GTAW welding equipment safely. Students will weld both fusion welds and with filler rod on common joints found in the welding industry, in all positions on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Students will develop the skills needed to take the American Welding Society SENSE Certification Tests for GTAW welders. Principles of metallurgy associated with the GTA welding processes will be taught.

III. Catalog Course Description

IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Comply with federal, state, and local safety legal requirements including OSHA
- Demonstrate techniques required when utilizing GTAW process
- Understand the proper application of autogenously welding versus filler rod addition
- Demonstrate knowledge and manipulative skills in the use of ferrous and non-ferrous filler rod
- Perform various welds in F,V,H and OH positions
- Complete with 75% accuracy an AWS SENSE Module 7 Exam
- Be familiar with all student policies and procedures at the College of Southern Idaho
- Successfully complete textbook assignments, quizzes and exams
- Have a clear understanding of the demands associated with the welding profession
- Demonstrate the proper attitude, appearance, and professionalism that assist an individual in being safe and successful as a welder
