III. Catalog Course Description

This course is a continuation of MUSI 112. It will continue the development of both solfege ability and aural perception of intervals, rhythms, chords, and chord progressions.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • The ability to sing all three forms of the minor scale and selected scale and arpeggio exercises using solfege syllables.
  • Increased proficiency in melodic dictation.
  • Increased proficiency in harmonic dictation.
  • Increased proficiency in rhythmic dictation.
  • Increased proficiency in the ability to accurately sing melodies and tap or speak rhythms at sight.

Sight-singing and aural skills exercises covering the following: I, IV, V and V7 Chords Alto Clef Dots and Ties Minor Mode Compound Meter Supertonic, Submediant and Mediant Triads Tenor Clef Triplets & Duplets Seventh Chords Syncopation Intervals of the Sixth, Seventh and Octave
