Please note: This is not a course syllabus. A course syllabus is unique to a particular section of a course by instructor. This curriculum guide provides general information about a course.
This course is designed to provide additional instruction and support for Math 123. It covers arithmetic operations on integers and rational numbers, simplifying variable expressions, solving linear equations, applications of linear equations, order of operations, exponents, scientific notation, radicals, ratios, percentages, polynomials, factoring, linear functions, graphing, and applications to real-world problems.
Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of the following processes and concepts: Whole numbers (rounding, prime factorization) Integers (adding, subtracting, multiplying dividing) Rational Numbers (GCF, LCM, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, converting between fractions and decimals) Variable Expressions (evaluating, combining like terms, using the distributive property) Solving Linear Equations (general first-order linear equations, mixture problems, uniform motion problems) Proportion and Percent (ratios, writing percents as decimals or fractions, use the basic percent equation, simple interest, percent increase and decrease, markup and discount) Polynomials (adding, subtracting, multiplying) Integer Exponents and Scientific Notation Factoring (GCF, trinomials, quadratic equations) Linear Equations in Two Variables (rectangular coordinate system, graphing points, x- and y-intercepts, slope, applications) Functions (function notation, linear functions) Radical Expressions (simplifying, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, irrational numbers, real numbers) Measurements (metric system, conversions) Geometry (perimeter, area, volume) Statistics (graphs, mean, median, mode) Critical thinking (inductive, deductive reasoning) Problem Solving (understand the problem, devise a plan, carry out the plan, and check the answer) Systems of linear equations (solve systems with two variables) Consumer mathematics and financial management (percents, interest, mortgages)
