HUMA 280 VPA Capstone

HUMA 280 is the program capstone for the Visual and Performing Arts Associates degree. It is designed to assess student learning throughout the program, help students develop future-looking goals and plans in the arts, and give students their first opportunities to develop and execute artistic projects on their own. Emphasis will be placed on collaboration and creative decision-making. Students will also have the opportunity to work with graduates and experienced local artists in bringing artistic projects to fruition in the community.

III. Catalog Course Description

HUMA 280 is the program capstone for the Visual and Performing Arts Associates degree. It is designed to assess student learning throughout the program, help students develop future-looking goals and plans in the arts, and give students their first opportunities to develop and execute artistic projects on their own. Emphasis will be placed on collaboration and creative decision-making. Students will also have the opportunity to work with graduates and experienced local artists in bringing artistic projects to fruition in the community.

• Articulate the purpose and value of artistic projects.
• Confidently share their artistic output through multiple means such as performance, digital media, and public display.
• Execute comprehensive plans to bring artistic projects from conception to completion.
• Collaborate across disciplines to advance artistic projects.
• Apply foundational artistic theory, craft, or visual language to the creative process.
• Teach, communicate, or share fundamental cultural understanding in the arts.
• Create artistic projects or performances that display a creative voice.
• Ask questions and examine processes such that they can continue and deepen their artistic practice throughout their lives.

Assessment Strategy Narrative

Through a learning process centered on inquiry and reflection, students will be assessed on their capacity to:

1. Identify, define or memorize theoretical concepts relevant to a particular artistic discipline.
2. Demonstrate understanding of basic techniques or artistic practices common to a particular discipline through repetition, copying models, Imitation or replication of ideas.
3. Define lines of inquiry necessary to understanding the techniques involved in producing high-quality media. 
4. Observe, discuss or demonstrate awareness of pedagogical methods common to an artistic discipline.
5. Constructively participate in collaborative or community-centered activities.
6. Understand, highlight or reflect on historical or cultural artistic contexts.
