III. Catalog Course Description

This course is a survey of legal topics relevant to food manufacturing, including labor, safety, and environmental laws.  This course focuses on the legal issues and principles that managers or supervisors will encounter during the routine management of a food manufacturing facility.    

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Describe the US legal system.
  • Gain a basic understanding of the legal environments surrounding food manufacturing.
  • Be familiar with often-recurring issues in business law issues.
  • Using critical thinking skills analyze situations and determine the most ethical and legal solutions to issues.
  • Explain current law, rules and regulations related to HR disputes.

10.   Human resources, discrimination (EEO, ADA, EPA), DOL (FLSA, FMLA), harassment, benefits (HIPAA, COBRA), disciplinary restrictions, Right to Work, Unemployment, Restrictive Covenants, Unions, Immigration Laws (I-9)

11.   Food Safety (FSMA, FQPA, Foreign Suppliers)
