Industrial Safety instructs students in the development, structure, application, and regulation of safety practices in accordance with the policies and procedures designated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30 Hour General Industry Training Program and the American Heart Association (AHA) First Aid/CPR/AED Training Program. III. Catalog Course Description

Industrial Safety instructs students in the development, structure, application, and regulation of safety practices in accordance with the policies and procedures designated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30 Hour General Industry Training Program and the American Heart Association (AHA) First Aid/CPR/AED Training Program. Prerequisite: Instructor approval.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Describe, define or declare the history of the OSH Act and the rationale for beginning the Occupational Health and Safety Administration and describe an application
  • Define general industry terms found in the OSHA General Industry Standards
  • Identify hazards which occur in general industry
  • Identify personal protective equipment commonly used in electrical applications
  • Identify personal protective equipment commonly used in hydraulic applications
  • Identify personal protective equipment commonly used in sanitary or cleaning applications
  • Describe, define, or declare the history of the American National Standards Institute and describe an application
  • Locate and determine appropriate OSHA General Industry Standards, policies, and procedures for specific industrial applications
  • Describe the use of OSHA General Industry Standards and regulations to supplement an ongoing safety and health program
  • Describe basic first aid give examples of application

V. Topical Outline (Course Content)

Perform CPR on an adult. Perform CPR on a child. Utilize an AED device on an adult. Splint a fracture. Bandage an open wound. Respond to a casualty due to extreme heat. Respond to a casualty due to extreme cold. Inspect and don personal protective equipment for electrical use. Inspect and don personal protective equipment for hydraulic use. Inspect and don personal protective equipment for bandaging an open wound. Inspect and don personal protective equipment for performing breaths on a victim during CPR. Perform a/an pre-operation inspection on a Class IV Forklift. Operate a Class IV Forklift to lift, move, and store palletized materials with the use of a ground guide. Operate a Class IV Forklift to lift, move, and store palletized materials without the use of a ground guide. Deploy a fire extinguisher to extinguish a gas fire using PASS Techniques (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep).
