Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Demonstrate appropriate safety practices
- Apply wellness knowledge and practice positive behavior growth using a minimum of three dimensions of wellness (Emotional, Environmental, Intellectual, Physical, Social, Spiritual and Financial)
- Understand the concept of wellness and be able to recognize the long term benefits of maintaining a high level of wellness for living in today’s world
- Students will understand and apply the physical dimension of wellness through weekly workouts designed by the instructor
- Students will understand and apply the social dimension of wellness through partner and group workout program design project with will require collaboration and teamwork
- Students will understand and apply the emotional and social dimensions of wellness through weekly group discussions about successful methods they use or have observed others using to focus on the positive aspects of their circumstances rather than the negative
- Students will improve and/or maintain muscle/joint strength, endurance, agility and flexibility
- Students will improve/maintain their level of cardiovascular fitness throughout the semester
V. Topical Outline (Course Content)
Daily class includes a 10 minute warm-up, 30 to 45 minutes technique instruction, 15 to 30 minutes mountain biking varying distances and terrain utilizing anaerobic, aerobic and lactate threshold energy systems, last 5 minutes cool down.
