III. Catalog Course Description

This course covers the practical application of detailing and polishing fundamentals including that of pre-wash, paint defect identification, exterior polishing, interior renovation, environmental hazards, proper use of detailing equipment and PPE. Gain knowledge of general safety and health practices, including the use of chemicals and detailing products.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Identify and utilize personal safety equipment and procedures
  • Analysis coating condition and determine proper repair steps
  • Evaluate applied finish for proper color match, texture and gloss
  • Identify and repair finish defects that can be repaired without refinishing

V. Topical Outline (Course Content)

Personnel safety precautions, clothing and protective equipment. Work area safety precautions Properties of sheet metal and the affects of improper cutting, heating, and welding. Purpose, construction, and operation of gas welding equipment for brazing, cutting, and heating. Purpose, construction, setup, and evaluation of performance of a GMAW/MIG welder. GMAW/MIG basic weld joints; (Butt, Fillet, Lap, and Plug). GMAW/MIG basic weld position; (Flat, horizontal/vertical, and overhead). Construction, setup, and operation of a plasma arc cutter.
