Romance Languages Major
The Romance Languages Major is designed for students who wish to study French and Spanish. The major will help students understand linguistic and cultural aspects of each language and expose students to the study of literature and cultures of the French- and Spanish-speaking worlds. The major is open to students at the introductory level in both languages and to students with previous competency in one or both languages.
Major
Students who complete the Romance Languages Major may not major in Spanish nor minor in either French or Spanish.
French
Complete the following French language and culture courses (20 credits)
FRE-101 | French Language and Culture I | 4 credits |
FRE-102 | French Language and Culture II | 4 credits |
FRE-201 | French Language and Culture III | 3 credits |
FRE-202 | French Language and Culture IV | 3 credits |
FRE-301 | French Composition and Conversation | 3 credits |
FRE-302 | French Composition and Conversation | 3 credits |
Students who place out of any lower-level French course(s) must replace these credits with WLC Department approved courses.
Spanish
Complete the following Spanish languages courses (13 credits)
SPA-101 | Spanish Language & Culture I | 3 credits |
SPA-102 | Spanish Language & Culture II | 3 credits |
SPA-201 | Spanish Language and Culture III | 3 credits |
SPA-202 | Spanish Language and Culture IV | 3 credits |
SPA-300 | Second Year Grammar Review | 1 credit |
Students who place out of any lower-level Spanish course(s) must replace these credits with WLC Department approved courses.
Spanish Upper Division
Complete 6 credits from SPA 305 through 308.

Complete this 1 credit Capstone.
ROM-490 | Romance Languages Major Capstone | 1 credit |
A requirement for the capstone will be to have completed at least one of the following learning experiences during the student’s undergraduate curriculum including: SPA / FRE faculty-led study abroad; SPA / FRE Service Learning; SPA / FRE Internship; Study abroad in a French or Spanish-speaking country.
