EDU-543 Social Studies Methods/Secondary Teachers

A study of the methods and materials appropriate to the level of middle and senior high school students. Emphasis will be given to the theoretical understanding of the nature and history of social studies as a broad field of study and to the various concepts, methods, and strategies used to teach it. Special consideration will be given to an examination of the content, substantive, and syntactic knowledge necessary to teach the various social studies disciplines in the secondary schools. The critical component of the course will be the creation and teaching of social studies units as part of the internship placement. Prerequisite: Admission to Internship.
