Withdrawing from a Course
Graduate students, full-time or part-time, may withdraw from any class from the beginning of the 4th week of the semester until the end of the 12th week of classes by completing and submitting the Course Withdrawal Form available on the Registrar’s Website or at the Registrar’s Office. No permission is required. A "W" will appear on the transcript in all cases of withdrawal; no exceptions.
A student seeking to withdraw after the 12th week of class and until the last day of classes must present documentation of extenuating circumstances for his or her request. After the twelfth week of classes, withdrawals are only permissible under extenuating circumstances after recommendation of the instructor and chair, and approval of School of Graduate Studies Dean. Poor academic performance is not considered an extenuating circumstance. Students may find the Withdrawal-After-Week-12 Form at the Registrar’s Website or at the Registrar’s Office as well as at the Graduate School website and Graduate Studies Office. If the request is approved, a “W” will be recorded on the student’s transcript. In all cases of withdrawal, a “W” does not affect the student’s grade-point average. If a student stops attending and fails to officially withdraw from a course, a grade of "F" will be recorded on the student's record.
