HI 341 African Americans Since 1865

African Americans have been part of the history of the U.S. from the very beginning. This course examines the roles their community has played in the U.S. after the Civil War. Among the issues discussed will be Reconstruction, the establishment of Jim Crow, the role of women in African-American society, and the ongoing struggle for civil liberties in the U.S. Prerequisite: HI 111.
