PSYC 179F The Path to a Science of Dreaming
Focuses on the methods and empirical findings that led gradually to development of a neurocognitive theory of dreaming between 1953 and 2016. Emphasis is on the difficulties of adapting methods useful in studying waking thought to the study of dreaming, the counterintuitive nature of many of the findings, the importance of replicating new results, and the general lessons about the nature of science that can be drawn from this particular scientific odyssey.
