FREN 235 The Francophone Caribbean: Literature and Culture
The Francophone Caribbean consists primarily of the French Départments d’outre mer (DOMs) of Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Guyane, and the Republic of Haiti. This course exposes students to some key works of the Francophone Caribbean and provides students with an insight into the diversity and complexity of Francophone Caribbean cultures and Literatures. Literary texts and Audio-Visual materials will provide information on the historical and political contexts and provide insight into topics like race, class, identity, gender, state violence within the Francophone Caribbean context. No previous knowledge of French is required.
