CHL 429C Youth Literature for Social Justice: Liberation Frameworks in the Field of Children’s Literature
This course seeks to ground the study of children’s and young adult literature as intertwined with current and previous Civil Rights movements and as a vehicle which many authors, practitioners, and policy makers view as enacting racial and social justice. In particular, this course examines how the youth literature field has participated in and responded to social justice movements in theory and praxis allowing students to grapple with various lenses for social justice work including critical multicultural analysis, critical race theory, and decolonial theory.
