PSRT 4251 SUBSTANCE ABUSE & MENTAL HLTH
The rehabilitation of serious mentally ill individuals is often complicated by the fact that many individuals also have substance abuse and dependence problems. The existence of these dual and interacting conditions within the same individual necessitates unique intervention approaches which borrow from both the substance abuse field. This course will focus on rehabilitation and counseling approaches from the substance abuse field including self-help, 12 step, therapeutic community, and detoxification. The unique application of these approaches, as well as approaches borrowed from the mental health field, such as psycho-education.
