The Nancy Thompson Library Learning Commons (NTLC) offers student support services designed to meet the academic, resource, and information needs of the student community. Its mission is to provide an integrated information delivery and learning support system that directly assists students with academic learning, completion of research-creative-and-scholarly activities, and their continuous professional development through programs, workshops, and events both virtually and face-to-face. The Learning Commons (LC) serves as the intellectual and cultural center of the university and is dedicated to promoting lifelong learning,

The NTLC provides a comprehensive and overarching Learning Commons environment. This is accomplished by working with faculty as an innovative and creative partner in providing the primary and secondary information resources needed for students to become critical, creative, and global thinkers engaged in their learning. The NTLC partners with the faculty and administration to foster student development of information literacy skills and provides the necessary services to support the basic needs of faculty conducting research with students. These include access to Writing, Public Speaking, and Tutoring Services that interact with the disciplinary and degree programs of Kean University and according to General Education requirements. Numerous modules and video resources are available through the website to assist students in self-paced learning.

Located in the heart of the Kean campus, the NTLC and its web site and online catalog house the print and online collections, with holdings of more than 177,961 volumes of books and access to more than 235,000 e-books. In addition, the NTLC subscribes to more than 56,748 electronic and print periodicals and provides access to more than 196,595 U.S. government online documents. A current validated Kean University photo ID is required to borrow materials. A Kean Google-email account is required to access resources from off-campus. The NTLC can also request additional books and articles online through the Interlibrary Loan system. Students may access other New Jersey academic books and resources using the VALE Reciprocal Borrowing Program.

Students may visit the NTLC or use services online, through "Chat", by phone, or by appointment and have access to computers and technology within the facility. The NTLC also provides "loaner" laptops and other devices as well as headsets for use in the building. NTLC Student Staff are available to assist students in their use of the technology in the facility. The Student support Services of the NTLC include Tutoring.
