CJ 3452 EPIDEMIOLOGICAL VICTIMOLOGY

Epidemiological Victimology is designed to give undergraduate criminal justice majors an understanding of the overlap between the epidemiology and criminal justice fields, specifically with regards to violent victimization and substance use. The course will briefly introduce theories pertaining to violent victimization, and substance use and abuse(i.e., life course theory, repeat victims, the role of both individual and community-level poverty. Relevant topics in epidemiology will be covered, including factors that increase an individual's risk of disease( e.g.,poverty, race), the extent of diseases in communities, disease prevention, and public policy. Datasets that include measures of victimization, disease and health will be presented and utilized by students. Prerequisite(s): CJ 2600/Criminal Justice in America & ID 1225/Issues in Contemporary health ENROLLMENT LIMIT: 35
