NURP 106 Fundamentals*
This course introduces basic concepts, principles, and theories of nursing practice with an emphasis on the five components of the Nursing Process. Students are introduced to basic concepts of client safety, communication, critical thinking, ethical and legal considerations, cultural diversity and research as they apply to the nursing care of adult clients. Psychomotor nursing skills are taught in a supervised lab setting. This course includes both theory and lab components.

III. Catalog Course Description
This course introduces basic concepts, principles, and theories of nursing practice with an emphasis on the five components of the Nursing Process. IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Be knowledgeable in the theory behind and application of the five components of the nursing process using case studies, simulated scenarios and the care of a client living in a home or long term care setting.
- Implement basic critical thinking and decision-making skills through the use of case studies, class discussions, simulated scenarios, and exams.
- Acquire basic knowledge of the practical nurse’s role in promoting cultural diversity and psychosocial integrity.
- Identify and practice Safety and Infection Control in the classroom and lab setting.
- Demonstrate effective and therapeutic communication techniques in the classroom and lab setting.
- Identify the theory behind and perform each nursing skill with proficiency of at least a 70% with no critical errors.
