The goal of this course is to study the devices and techniques used in fiction and to write short stories.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- appreciate the difference between literary fiction and genre fiction in short stories;
- nderstand the elements of fiction in the short story form;
- analyze published short stories with a basic understanding of literary criticism;
- develop an individual writing process that lends itself to creative writing;
- understand and practice the skills needed to create short stories;
- constructively critique classmates’ work in a writing workshop.
