Students will acquire the knowledge of the nature and scope of entrepreneurship, and understand the value of an entrepreneurial mindset. Students will examine traits and behaviors fundamental to becoming a successful leader and will be exposed to the first steps of the entrepreneurial process including the development of a business plan.

III. Catalog Course Description

This course is designed to introduce students to the concept of entrepreneurship. Students will acquire the knowledge of the nature and scope of entrepreneurship, and understand the value of an entrepreneurial mindset. Students will examine traits and behaviors fundamental to becoming a successful leader and will be exposed to the first steps of the entrepreneurial process including the development of a business plan.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Utilize screening and feasibility tools and be able to conduct a feasibility analysis to determine the worthiness of a potential new business idea.
  • Identify financial requirements of a new business and be able to understand and develop pro forma financial statements (e.g. income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, etc.)
  • Present a completed business plan with visual support.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of defining innovative business opportunities and developing new business ventures.
  • Discuss elements of leadership and how it affects business success.
  • Compare and contrast characteristics of business-to-business e-commerce and business-consumer e-commerce.
  • Explain federal, state, and local regulations that affect small business ownership.
  • Complete a full business plan including the development of an executive summary, industry and market analysis, a marketing strategy and plan, operation plan, product/service development plan, and company structure.
