III. Catalog Course Description
This course allows credit for the completion of a Communications Technician registered apprenticeship program at the journeyman level, equivalent to at least 6000 hours of training. It is intended for students completing the Applied Technology and Apprenticeship AAS.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Identify known hazards around the job site and the procedures required to mitigate them to create a safe, working environment.
- Set up and deploy the mobile radio trailer as needed.
- Understand the theory of electrical utility systems, equipment, and operation.
- Understand the theory of power systems for communications equipment and the benefits of frequency modulation versus amplitude modulation.
- Understand the theory of telecommunications including transmission lines and wave guides, fiber-optics, antennas and wave propagation, and transmitters.
- Design, install, and maintain various fiber-optic equipment.
- Demonstrate advanced techniques for configuring simple to complex computer data and traffic through a digital network.
- Understand the theory of the MPR9500 microwave radio and how to configure its' radio path for different applications.
- Troubleshoot various communications systems.
- Create and edit CommData circuits.
