Academic Assessment
Students enrolling in College and Career Readiness receive assessment and placement through the following procedures:
- All new students are required to complete a 3 consecutive day/9-hour orientation program prior to entry into a College and Career Readiness class.
- Students present a valid photo Identification Card from the Department of Motor Vehicles and a Social Security Card prior to testing. All students must be 18 years of age, emancipated, or approved by the Dean of College and Career Readiness.
- The TABE Locator is administered to all potential students to determine the appropriate level of assessment. Test results are used to determine class placement. English as a Second Language (ESL) students are administered the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) test to determine class placement. At the completion of the assessment, students are given a class assignment and program orientation.
- Class assignment is based on the following:
- Assessment scores.
- Where students live or where they would like to attend, if appropriate.
- Attendance hours required by participating agency or agencies.
- The instructor provides each assigned student with placement referral information.
- Post-testing is administered based on hours of instruction, student classroom performance, and by instructor recommendation.
