Program Description: This program prepares the student to be an entry-level cloud computing professional. Students learn about networking, operating systems, systems administration, scripting and programming, database systems, virtualization, software, analytics, and security. Students will understand how to work with premises-based networks and servers. They will learn about hybrid systems where portions of their services are housed locally on the organizations infrastructure and where portions of their services are located in the "cloud". Students will also learn how to support cloud only solutions. The cloud computing profession is multidiscipline; students not only need to know how in implement and managed cloud solutions, but they will also learn about operating systems and virtualization used to support the cloud based applications. They will learn to support cloud based applications and data management. They will also learn how to secure these remote resources.
Employment Opportunities: According to the Bureau of Bureau of Labor Statistics Cloud computing is one area that is expected to contribute to growth in the IT industry. Many organizations have already adopted cloud computing and multiple studies project cloud computing will grow rapidly over the next several years. According to the Bureau of Bureau of Labor Statistics employment in computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 11 percent from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. These occupations are projected to add about 531,200 new jobs. Demand for these workers will stem from greater emphasis on cloud computing, the collection and storage of big data, and information security.
Credentialing (Optional): Completion of this degree program provides training to sit for the following examinations to enhance employability— AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solutions Architect Associate, AWS SysOps Administrator Associate, AWS Developer Associate, and other IT certifications.
