Program Description: The Administrative Support Assistant program prepares individuals to provide administrative support under the supervision of office managers, executive assistants, and other office personnel. Courses include Computer Literacy, Business Procedures, and Introduction to office suite software (including word processing, spreadsheet & database management).
Employment Opportunities: Those students who graduate with the Administrative Support Assistant certificate may be employed in entry level positions in office settings including educational institutions, federal, state, and local government offices, and small and large businesses. Entry level positions are available in several areas including office assistant, receptionist, clerk typist, general office clerk, order clerk, stock control clerk, and data entry clerk. Overall employment of administrative assistants is projected to decline 7 percent from 2020 to 2030 as technology enables staff in many organizations to prepare their own documents without the help of assistants. Additionally, many administrative assistants support more than one manager in an organization, and many managers now do tasks that were previously done by these workers. Despite declining employment, about 324,300 openings for administrative assistants are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Most openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to other occupations or exit the labor force to retire.
