RNBSN 260 Informatics

This course will provide a broad overview of electronic health records, clinical decision support systems, standards, privacy/security and confidentiality, best evidence-based practice, data visualization and consumer-centric health informatics. The current landscape of healthcare informatics and the importance of health information technology (HIT) on quality patient care will be reviewed. Emphasis will be on the use of technology and information systems and how these relate to patient care, health outcomes, communication, and monitoring patient care in diverse healthcare delivery settings. Skills essential for the BSN prepared nurse will be covered such as the ability to understand and provide leadership within contemporary healthcare delivery settings to use information systems/technology.
