DABA 661 Complex Stimulus Control

The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of stimulus control in behavior analysis, primarily in the areas of learning and derived relational responding. The course is taught in a seminar format with students leading the discussion on a variety of readings covering the following topics: a history of the seminal studies investigating the development of stimulus control in the fields of basic, applied and translational research; a review of the factors influencing the development of stimulus control; an examination of the methodologies necessary to establish simple and conditional discriminations; an analysis of complex forms of stimulus control (e.g. contextual stimulus control; derived relational responding, etc.). Students will be required to design and present a hypothetical research to develop and evaluate stimulus control as a basic, applied or translational intervention.
