ENGL 184 Performance and Politics on the Global Stage

Studies works of drama from the 17th through 21st centuries to consider the relationship between politics and performance across the globe. Considers how play production has informed and engaged publics during the Haitian Revolution, nineteenth-century domestic revolutions, the rise of Nazi Germany and fascism in Europe, apartheid in South Africa, and racist violence in America. Requires reading, staging, and performing plays.
