Studies personal, family, and cultural conflicts created by the tensions between ethnic and American loyalties in fictional and non-fictional works by African American, Jewish, Native American, Asian American, Latinx, and other authors. Focuses on the dilemma of affirming the values of ethnic identity in a civilization professing the virtues of assimilation.
